Paul Röthlisberger errichtete durch Testament vom 22. Februar 1980 die "Paul und Johanna Röthlisberger-Schmid Stiftung" zur Unterstützung von bedürftigen Studierenden der Medizin an der Universität Bern. Die Stiftung, deren Kapital die Liegenschaft Thunstrasse 44 darstellt, wurde unter dem 2. September 1997 notariell verurkundet.
