Geboren am 19. April 1903 in Chur, gestorben am 25. Juli 1989 in Bern, reformiert, von Stein SG und St. Gallen. Sohn des Johann Jakob, Postbeamter (Vizedirektor), und der Gertrud geb. Bärlocher. Heirat mit Felizitas Hedwig Egger, von Kerns. 1928 medizinisches Staatsexamen und Promotion in Bern. Weiterbildung an der Berner Chirurgischen Universitätsklinik bei Fritz de Quervain, 1939 PD, 1941 ao. Prof., 1942-71 o. Prof. und Klinikdirektor. Als Vertreter des Gesamtgebiets der Chirurgie förderte Lenggenhager in den entstehenden Spezialdisziplinen die Ausbildung seiner Mitarbeiter. Für zahlreiche chirurgische Probleme entwickelte er eigene Ansichten und Lösungen. Die von ihm 1935 eingeführte Verhütung von Blutgerinnseln (sog. Miniheparinprophylaxe) fand erst spät Anerkennung.
